San Diego is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Diego is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Gelato is great, but it was truly disappointing that with a child who had to go to the restroom now, we went all the way out, all the way around, upstairs, into the second area just to find out that we needed a code to use the restroom. And so that completely negated the gelato experience.

We have been regulars and supporters of Gelato Vero Caffe over 35 years, back when Henry was there. Always taking friends and visitors, picking it up for parties/guests, and "spreading the word" about Gelato Vero Caffe. I even made some insulated plywood boxes to hold gelato trays for my nephews wedding that we later donated to the shop. But something has changed and it's just not the same place with the great Gelato and good vibes anymore. The Gelato...The Spumoni, which used to have small chunks of chocolate now has little shavings. And the consistency is quite erratic now...sometimes you may get a ton of cherries in that Spumoni, and maybe the next time none. Or, no chunks of chocolate in the Mocha Rum Crunch. The Service...My wife and I went for Gelato the other night, and as we have noticed in the last year or so, the staff are just there, doing their chores if you will, selling the stuff. And on this last visit we felt as if we were an impostion on the staff, no "Hello", or "Thanks" when we paid, just grumpy doing their thing. We got the feeling they would just prefer no one coming in. And we're sure the people that came in after us felt the same. Now the enviroment...Plast

Fabulous gelato! Visiting from Albuquerque and I found this place on a whim, would absolutely recommend cool little place. Lady at the front could be a little more friendly but she absolutely could have been having a long day. But overall: upstairs access, decent selection, and available restroom. I will note this place has a lot of potential, has wonderful space, totally underutilized, bathroom could also be updated and cleaned.

The ice cream had a heavy texture, and the flavor tasted artificial. I’m not a fan of this place. On the positive side, the staff was friendly, and there’s seating both inside and outside. The main downside, aside from the ice cream, is parking—it’s very hard to find a spot, as there’s limited space. 3.5 ⭐

One of my daily go-to’s This place is like from a movie—everyone knows your name and order when you walk in! From the muffins and coffee, to the tasty homemade gelato it simply can’t be beat! The food is always delicious and the customer service is fast, respectful, and reliable. I would 1000% recommend you go for breakfast, or an afternoon snack. My favorite is the banana blackberry muffin and tiramisu ice cream. The music is generally very relaxing yet hip! But my favorite of favorites is definitely their water it just doesn’t get better than reverse osmosis I’m convinced! Please love yourself and come get you some gelato! 😋
